Aunty Tommy's new Koko Samoa Drinking Chocolate Block. The perfect cup of Koko Samoa Drinking Chocolate now in 130g block size. The same great koko flavour in a smaller size makes it perfect for koko alaisa, cakes, and koko Samoa. No more wasted koko, just delicious natural cacao goodness.

*Please note while our koko looks like chocolate, it is 100% dark cacao paste so is bitter to the taste. Only for the brave!

    Weight: 130g
    Makes: 2.5 Litres
    Flavour: Bitter
    Texture: Smooth (No Pegu)

    how we brew

    1. Break (or grate) the block up into smaller more manageable pieces using a blunt butter knife or grater.

    2. Add the smaller pieces to a 2.5 litre pot of boiling water on medium to high oven heat.

    3. Stir until the koko has fully melted, it should be a solid dark brown chocolatey colour with the natural cacao oils starting to come to the surface of the water.

    4. Reduce oven heat down to a medium/low temperature and let simmer.

    5. To serve, add your favourite sweetener (sugar or honey). Add milk (optional) and enjoy.

*Koko blocks can also be used as an ingredient for cooking and baking.

    details

    Weight: 130g
    Makes: 2.5 litres
    Flavour: Bitter
    Process: Stone ground
    Texture: Smooth no pegu
    Ingredients: 100% cacao paste

Our koko is untempered which helps it melt faster in your cup. As a result it can develop bloom.

Bloom is when the fat content separates from the koko and rises to the surface. Bloom can often look like a marbled, powdery streaky substance. This is normal in untempered chocolate and is still perfectly safe to consume.

*May contain traces of cocoa husk and cocoa nibs.

    Disclosures

Allergens: None. Made in a roastery that handles only cacao.

Natural stimulants: Cacao naturally contains caffeine and theobromine. No caffeine is added. One cup has about 10 mg of caffeine, much less than a typical cup of coffee.

Pregnant or breastfeeding: New Zealand guidance is to keep caffeine under 200 mg a day from all sources. Koko counts toward that total.

Children: Koko contains natural stimulants. Serve young children smaller or weaker cups, and avoid it close to bedtime.

Toxic to dogs and cats: Pure cacao is much stronger than milk chocolate, and even a little can make a small dog unwell. Store out of reach of pets. If your pet eats any, call your vet straight away.

Kidney health: Cacao is naturally high in oxalate. If you have kidney disease or have been advised to follow a low-oxalate diet, talk to your doctor about how much koko is right for you.

Serve with care: Koko is made with boiling water. Let it cool before giving it to children.

Storage: Keep sealed in a cool, dry place.
